Let's face it, some folks derive immense pleasure from getting down on their knees and scrubbing away at their wheels with a toothbrush. What's more, there are people who actually get into changing their own oil, swapping out air filters and even think it's cool to add fluids to those enigmatic holes positioned all over their engines.
On the other side, there are others who don't give a rodent's posterior about car care and can't even manage to spray a hose on their vehicle once a month. If you're part of the former crowd, stop reading, this article isn't for you. Go on and get back to your pristine machine and have at it with your dental instruments and filter wrenches.
If your are in the group of owner that don't know the first thing about car care, this article is meant to scare you and tune you up a little. This is going to hurt where it hurts the most: Your wallet. What where you thinking?
You have to learn that the lack of car care is going to cost you dearly. The prices for re-sale vehicles, those you see listed in the Blue Book, are only valid for well taken care of vehicles. Not taking care of your car in a regular basis will only degrade it's value. Not changing the oil, for example, is considered neglect, and will lower your sale price. Fortunately, making just some minot tweaks to your car maintenance routine can make some the difference in just a short time.
Be advised: this is not necessarily the best solution, it's what works for thos that can't find the time or joy for car caring. Ok, to get started, let's do some cleaning. Find a touchless car wash. If you car is really filthy, any gas station wash will do. This is just to clean it up a bit.
Now find a good car detailer. You will have to spend something between $10 and $40 to get your car looking very good. Also, if your exterior are really bad, like showing oxidation, swirling or fading, the detailer can offer you clay bars, touch up paint or rubbin copunds. Just remember this services may cost you a bit more.
Now, don't skip the interior, you will thank me for this. By the time your car is ready, you will be surprised how your car will look like. Up until now, you haven't really worked at all, other than driving to the car wash and spending a few dollars.
Now, the car care next step: under the hood. But don't go there! It's much more easier and cheaper to find a good reputalbe place and have a guy do the dirty work. They can get you fixed and ready in little time and good price.
They sure have seen some ugly stuff, so don't worry when they mention your air filter is not longer recongnizable. They can offer different services as changing the transmission fluid or the battery terminals. Just make sure they don't take you for a sucker or you will be paying some hefty bill for your ignorance. Yes, it's happened to me.
Perfect, now you car looks better than ever, thanks to a little car care. No more embarrasing in front of your father-in-law or your co-workers. Hey, you may even take a date now with out worring what she'll find inside your car.
How do you like that? Maybe you would like to keep it that way? It's really not that hard. Just keep doing the steps we mentioned, wash it and change the oil every once in a while. Once you start, you will see that car care habit is not so bad. You might even give car covers, seat covers or exhaust system a try.
Whatever the outcome, just remember that a little car care goes a long way.
