Considering a home business opportunity objectively is not always easy. Everyone's marketing materials and website are designed to highlight the good and minimize the bad. This is neither good nor bad in itself; it's just a fact. I looked at over 100 business opportunities, and developed a list of "Things You HAVE to Know." These are further divided into the subheadings of Things To Know About The Company, The Products, The Pay Plan, and The Training. This article will cover the second category, Things to Know About the Products.
What's important to know about the products
1. The most critical question regarding products is whether or not they would sell outside of the opportunity. Mlm products are usually (and correctly) considered to have two characteristics-- they are over priced, and they are of high quality. However, most people won't buy a product just because it is good or because you are selling it. If you either 1) could buy it somewhere else for a fraction of the price, or 2) don't need the products, you should probably pass. The big hitters might be able to build a business and perhaps sign you up, but can you sell a product that is grossly over priced? Will your friends be willing customers? Using "it costs so much so my uplines can make millions of dollars from me selling it" is not very effective in converting prospects to customers.
2. If you don't buy the product or use it, go to a different business, period. No matter how good the marketing hype sounds, if you don't use it, you won't sell it. Inevitably, someone will ask you how you like it, or if you use it, and if you don't do both, you are done with that person. If you fib and say that you do use it, and really love it and you don't, they are gone also. It's like the Ford dealer who drives a Chevy home at the end of the day.
3. Evaluate the competition for this particular opportunity. For instance, a Google search for "weight loss products," shows 5,250,000 hits. Do you want to compete with all of those? That would not necessarily be bad, but you should determine ahead of time whether or not that's where you want to compete.
4. See how much competition you have within the specific company or opportunity. There are searches you can do for specific opportunities that have all of the pay per click links on the first page going to a single replicated company website that shows a guy sitting on the beach sipping a pina colada while you work away.
