A sales representative always has the name of the company on his or her shoulders. They have the task of directly selling the product, which include showcasing, thinking up strategies and developing techniques. different sales representatives have different jobs and requirements, as well as different duties expected of them.
There are some sales jobs that require a great deal of skill and expertise from their sales agents. Medical or pharmaceutical sales persons for example should have at least a degree in science, medicine or pharmacy to be able to sell their products. There are also some sales jobs that don't require a degree like sellers of candy or furniture.
The job and responsibilities of a sales person are determined by the kind of company he or she is in. It mostly depends on the line of the company and what specific kind of sales person he or she is. There are sales representatives who travel frequently and there are those who are stationed in the head office to make calls. They have different strategies to convince customers to buy their services or products.
What's certain is that sales representatives need to know everything they can about the product that they are selling. It also helps when a sales representative knows how to talk to people or have taken business and communication courses. Most companies train their sales representatives in these skills to make them more successful salespeople.
There are also different ways that sales persons are paid. There are a number of sales representatives that are paid for every product that they sell, while others have set salaries, and are usually given bonuses if their quota is reached or surpassed. The first pay structure is called commission sales.
In general, sales representatives usually work must harder if they are paid on a commission basis. There may be some months when they aren't able to sell anything, which means that they won't get paid, while there could be other months when money just keeps on coming in.
