For over half a century, those in the shipping business rely on one very important tool to help them do their job: shipping boxes. Imagine how the world of shipping now will be like if these don't exist. Everyone would probably still find shipping very cumbersome and difficult. Shipping boxes makes goods transportation more convenient. It's also not very expensive.
The first time shipping boxes were used were back in April 26, 1956. On this special day, the first successful shipment was made. It consisted of 58 truck bodies, and was a five day trip, starting from New Jersey and arriving in Houston. Ever since then, shipping became an important enterprise. The boxes used came in various sizes and shapes. They now "travel" to different places all over the world.
Since people transport almost any kind of object, shipping boxes now comes in various kinds, to suit any kind of package. There are many popular types used today.
For fragile items sent in bulk, corrugated shipping boxes are used. This is a pre-cut box, bought as a sheet and then folded. Many people today use this when transporting items such as vases, plates and glasses. Fruits and produce can also be sent in these boxes, without being spoilt. Corrugated shipping boxes are used by many people and can be recycled.
If you plan to transport larger, bulkier packages, you should find heavy-duty shipping boxes that will let you handle more weight. If the package will include things such as dumbbells or heavy books, these are certainly very useful. Most heavy-duty boxes can support weights up to 275 pounds or more.
Specialty boxes, such as computer boxes, are also popular among many people. Made especially for electronic devices, these boxes provide special protection to their contents, so they won't be damaged even when being shipped. Specialty boxes have a unique structure within, creating extra protection for the things inside. They often have suspension inserts. This is a box cut-out, fitted perfectly on the content and placed inside the box. The suspension inserts prevents the items from making too much movement.
These are just some of the shipping boxes used today. Other examples include moving boxes, file boxes, and a whole lot more.
