There are some bed & breakfast issues you may have to deal with from time to time that aren't going to be pleasant. Yet it is a fact that such things will occur in this type of business establishment. Knowing what you are up against and devising a plan for effectively handling them is very important. Not all of your customers are going to be friendly and happy people.

It is also your responsibility to provide a safe environment for all of your guests. You certainly can't allow the behavior or one individual to affect all of them. People should never feel uneasy at your business due to how other people are behaving. That isn't what they paid for or why they chose to stay at a bed & breakfast. How you deal with these types of situations is going to affect their decision to return in the future or not.

Chances are if you are in this type of business you are warm and receptive to other people. Just because someone is shy or prefers their privacy doesn't make them a difficult bed & breakfast customer. However, if you have a gut feeling about someone then you do need to be very careful. I do not say this to scare you but there are some people out there that don't make very good choices.

Effective communication skills can help to take care of many of the types of problems that may arise at your bed & breakfast location. However, you may not be able to take care of issues that are developing between them. Should a couple be having issues at your business you can do your best to give them space to discuss it. Should the situation appear violent though you need to get the police involved to investigate it further.

Some issues can be easily resolved so don't be in a hurry to push everyone out the door. Noise is one issue that can come up often. Some people just don't realize how loud they are being. When you point it out to them though they will make a conscious effort to change it immediately. Those that don't have enough respect to do so though may need to be asked to find other accommodations.

You definitely don't want people using any type of drugs in your establishment. If that appears to be an issue you need to immediately ask them to vacate your property. Think carefully about your policy on alcohol use in the place as well. Some owners allow it but it could lead to behavior problems due to intoxicated individuals. Smoking is another common problem so make sure guests know if it is acceptable or not.

Sometimes you will have issues that arise when people come back late at night and they are drunk. Many people don't handle alcohol well and they may be angry and difficult to deal with when they return. You always need to remember that you have the right to refuse service to anyone at your business. Exercise the right when you feel you need to.

Asking guests to leave your establishment is often a very last resort. Yet it is a legal right that you have and you should exercise it when you feel the need to do so. Never put yourself or other guests at risk by allows these types of behaviors to continue. You can always contact the local police to handle any types of complains you wish to follow.
