It is true that many individuals drink coffee everyday regardless of the weather. This is good news for coffee shop owners as it means they will likely have some steady traffic all year long. Yet it is common for them to see a reduction due to the warmer weather. Many people are looking for a cool and refreshing drink or even some ice cream.
One way to get people to take notice of what you offer is to advertise. Don't just say you have a coffee shop, tell them what you offer. Tell them about drink specials, special times of the day when drinks are a lower price, and even about the new products you have to offer. Don't assume that everyone will just come in to check out the menu. However, if you advertise the menu chances are they will come in to order something.
There are some great summer time drinks that can be coffee related too. For example you can offer iced coffee. Many coffee drinkers really like the change when it is hot outside. You can provide several different flavors too so they won't get tired of the same one day after day. For the avid coffee drinker, this can be the perfect choice so you may want to consider leaving it on the menu all year long.
You can go a completely different direction with some cooler drinks too. There is no written rule that says you must only offer coffee related drinks. Cold smoothies made from fresh strawberries or bananas will be a huge hit. They are healthy and they are sweet too which is a good combination for those with a need for something refreshing. Yet they also want to have a snack that satisfies their sweet tooth.
Ice cream is a favorite treat of people of all ages, and you can offer some great flavors at your coffee shop as well. You don't want it to be too complicated but if you get a freezer and offer a few flavors you should have no trouble selling them. Even if someone comes in for just coffee they may decide a side of ice cream is a great treat for the afternoon.
If possible change the dcor in the summer too. You can change the curtains to allow more sunlight to come in. You can rearrange tables so that there is room for people to visit and hang out. When it is hot outdoors people like a well air conditioned place to come in to relax. Make sure your coffee shop is a place that fits that profile for customers.
Keep in mind that during the summer months many coffee shop guests will have their children with them. Do they feel welcome and comfortable in your business? Are there items on the menu they will be happy ordering? If not you will be missing out on the chance to make money from families. This isn't something you want to miss out on as it will increase your sales over just one person coming in to buy one item.
With a few simple changes you can certainly continue to have a very busy coffee shop all summer long. You are risking losing money if you just allow the business to continue as it is during the warmer months. You may be making a profit, but the overall amount could be much higher if you put some effort into advertising and into offering some great summer drinks.
