How do you handle an aging workforce dilemma? That is the question facing the oil and gas industry at the moment. All of this came about because of the loss of confidence in the industry during the Eighties. It is a problem that is going to come home to roost within a few years unless they can carry out some heavy duty recruiting here and now.
Due to this lack of recruitment, the average age of the Oil worker is 50. it is a dilemma that not many human resource managers would want to have on their to-do list
Fortunately students have been drawn to the geosciences, despite the powerful draw of the computer sciences. The companies that operate in the field of Oil and Gas Industry have seen this change as the perfect opportunity to 'refresh' their aging workforce.
For the applicants without a degree that matches the demands of an oil industry job there is hope. They can find jobs that require no experience in the field, but in entry-level positions.
Those that join from a lower qualification level can be trained on the job and in the classroom, and are able to see a clear employment road in front of them.
Almost everyone has the vision of a man in oilskins drilling for oil, dirty or wet with sea water. There are so many options within the industry, such as administration, procurement, transportation, technical, as well as those drilling rig jobs.
Rig workers still deal with the 'normal vision' of the petrochemical industry, but the range of employment goes way beyond that
