Finding affordable health insurance is becoming increasingly difficult for many individuals. They understand how vital it is for them and their family members to be covered, but find most plans beyond their financial means. For many people, this means accepting a low cost solutions only to discover later on they have become the victim of either an outright scam, or an inadequate policy..

Each year millions of dollars in unpaid medical bills occur due to health insurance scams. Those that are the victims find their premiums didn’t give them the coverage they thought they had. The medical providers don’t seem to care about this issue either. They pursue those legally responsible for the medical bills and it can ruin their credit in no time at all.

It seems that health insurance scams are on the rise due to the availability of such coverage online. This isn’t to say that you can’t find decent health insurance online but that you do need to be careful. Anyone can create a Web Site as well as forms that look like legitimate health insurance cards. You could end up paying in month after month only to discover they are absolutely worthless as no real coverage exists.

Some plans, passing as health insurance, are actually supplemental policies with limited benefits. People find to their horror, when disaster strikes, that the benefits have huge loopholes, or payouts which inadequately cover the costs of medical care.

Take the time to find out all you can about any health insurance company you are considering. How long have they been in business? Where are they physically located? Take the time to enter their business name into the Site for the Better Business Bureau. Are there complaints by other consumers against them? Read reviews on the Internet from people with experiences dealing with the company.

In California every agent must have his license number clearly visible and anyone who sells health insurance must be licensed.

While it is tempting to find the least expensive health insurance option, it is also prudent to be very careful. If budget is a major consideration, rather than accepting a questionable plan, consider purchasing and Health Savings Account plan.

HSAs are health insurance plans with two components: a low cost, high deductible health plans and an interest baring, tax deductible savings account. The medical savings account is used for minor expenses from doctors visits, to prescription drugs, vision to dental, while the high deductible health insurance kicks in to cover the larger bills when needed and the deductible is met.

Health Savings Plans lower costs immediately through the more affordable, high deductible health plan as well as in-network discounts, and continuously through tax savings.
