Propionibacterium or acne bacteria is not the root cause of acne, so destroying it can, at best, help you to bring down the swelling that a ripe pimple causes. It cannot prevent acne from forming as it does not play much of a part in the creation of this condition.
The Acne Problem Lies Way Below The Skin
Dermatologists refer to acne as an inflammatory disease of the skin. Superficial factors like an oily skin due to excessive production of keratin and sebum by the oil-producing sebaceous glands results in inflammation.
The excess of sebum causes the pores of the hair follicle to block up and this leads to the growth of bacteria. Outbreaks of small pimples take place as the bacteria intensifies, and these appear in the forms of blackheads (which appear on the surface) or as whiteheads, which form underneath.
However, acne formation is due to a combination of various factors like overactive sebum glands, skin type, blocked pores and acne bacteria together with malfunctions inside our body which makes the skin susceptible to acne breakouts. That is why medical practitioners refer to it as a disease of the skin.
Is Acne a skin disease?
Whatever else acne might be, it is certainly not a disease, just as many of the medical conditions found in the western world are not really diseases. Acne RESULTS from a disease and the acne condition is the body's way of telling you that all is not well. Don't ignore this message as the balance of your body is at stake.
I wish to warn you that you should not take the words of conventional practitioners of medicine as the whole truth and start treating your acne as a skin ailment and nothing else. The problem can only be found in the deeper recesses of the body.
What you must realize is that your acne is not a disease which has afflicted your skin. The real cause of it is turmoil in your inner balance. The protuberances on your skin are the outer sign of a much deeper malady which you MUST set right if you are to get rid of your acne and generally improve your health.
Obviously, you will turn around and say that most doctors treat acne as basically a skin problem. They do, because that is the only way they can sell you the creams, the lotions and the antibiotics which really give you little help.
The usefulness of the acne bacteria
Yes acne bacteria, like all other types of bacteria are there for a purpose. These organisms or p acne bacteria as they are called are found on everybody's skin. Their job is to attack other more virulent bacteria and to protect and maintain the natural balance of our skin.
You may be surprised to know that acne bacteria, so long as it is in tune with the balance of your body, help you repel other bacteria which are way more harmful for you. It exists in all human beings, irrespective of whether they have acne or not and is the major reason for the flexibility of your skin.
The secretions from our sweat and sebaceous glands are what the acne bacteria feed itself on. This is normal for everyone whether they have acne or not.
The important thing to realize is that acne bacteria does not cause acne, otherwise everyone would have been afflicted since everyone has this bacteria in them. How come only some of us get it?
The case is the same with streptococcus bacteria which everyone has. Then why is it that everyone doesn't get tonsillitis or a strep throat? The reason is that, like acne bacteria, it will not strike unless the conditions in the body are right and a specific environment is fashioned.
It is the environment which counts (the acne triangle of oil-toxins-bacteria)
Certain pre-conditions are necessary for acne to develop. Whenever the natural balance of our system, like an imbalance in our hormonal profile for example, gets upset, the sebaceous glands produce excess oil. This oil combines with the toxins that the body has not been able to flush out because of the blocked skin pores. This condition helps the acne bacteria to increase at an alarming rate resulting in an acne breakout with all its side effects.
To get rid of acne and its recurrence you must ensure that such a condition is not allowed to develop. The acne cannot be stopped by trying to destroy the bacteria with superficial medication. This will only put a temporary halt in the proliferation of acne bacteria unless you treat the root cause.
This is why antibiotics such as tetracycline, benzoyl peroxide or monocycline have little effect in the longer term. Instead of honing in on the root cause of the malady and nipping it in the bud, all they do is destroy the acne bacteria.
How to tackle acne
We hope that we have been able to give you a clear picture of the reasons for the growth of acne bacteria and the interfusion that causes acne. Remember though that this is only what happens on the surface. If you really want to rid yourself of acne for ever, you will have to understand the reason why the blood toxins and the hormonal imbalances take place. They are really what cause the unhealthy mixture of oil, toxins and bacteria.
This nexus is created on the surface of the skin because of a process that is affected by changes within the body. These changes are nutritional, hormonal, environmental and even psychological.
To ensure that your skin remains acne free permanently you need to restore the internal balance of your system. Simultaneously, the bacteria on the surface of the skin should be maintained at the normal level so that your complexion becomes radiant once again.
