Although low-carb diets became unpopular in the 70's they have received a lot of attention in the past few years. The success of these aggressive marketing campaigns can be seen in the popularity of low carb diets like Atkins and the Zone can be seen in the millions of books sold. Generally, the low carb diet has various versions. All versions of a low carb diets require a strict reduction in the amount of carbohydrates ingested. And this particular thing in common among these mentioned versions of the low carb diet is the main reason that they are considered as part of the low carb diet.
This diet is based on the concept of deriving most of the dietary protein by consuming animal fat products. The body goes into a state of ketosis, which causes it to burn stored fat for fuel instead of the carbohydrates. As good as it sounds, it's still the truth; eat protein and burn off stored fat and avoid carbs. Right? Well, ketosis is a dangerous condition that can cause kidney and organ failure, happens when people switch to a high-carb diet from a low-carb diet.
This type of diet replaces carbohydrates with essential fats and proteins. The diets offer different recommendations, but in general the low-carb diet is analogous to one that recommends an intake high in fat with a moderate amount protein. Often on these types of diets between 60-70% of consumed calories come from fat. The carbohydrates ought to then account for under ten percent, or , in certain cases, under five percent of your calorie intake per day.
Finally, the low carb diet enables you to eat as much as you want, providing that the foods that you consume are those permitted by the diet. So to mention, some of the allowed foods for low carb diet include meats, fish, poultry, and cheese, which are then coupled with a limited amount of green vegetables.
