Weight gain is a direct result of the sedentary lifestyle of today. There's really no arguing that fact. However, everyone has a different idea on how to lose the weight.

One of the main reasons we have a liver is to create energy from stored fat. That's why it is so important that your liver always function at its best. Another function of the liver is to assist the kidneys in doing their job if they're dehydrated. Drink more water and your liver will stay focused on transforming fat into energy! Maintaining a healthy body requires water consumption. Summing up: drink more water and consume fewer dehydrating beverages.

Your body burns calories just to exist. No matter what we expend in a twenty-four hour day, we constantly require energy. That's common knowledge. What is not as commonly known is that the amount of muscle on your body determines your resting metabolic rate. Increase your muscle mass - even minimally - and you will increase your resting metabolic rate, resulting in more burned calories every hour of the day.

To benefit from increasing your metabolism, you don't need to lift weights two or three hours a day. I don't have that kind of time to invest - you probably don't either.

If you are overweight and you'd like to increase your muscle mass, pace yourself; start with simple squats and push-ups. Every day complete five repetitions of each exercise. You don't have to spend a dime because they can be done at home. If you want to do more than just push-ups and squats, does that mean you need to buy a set of weights? No matter how silly it sounds, you can always use a pair of rocks weighing three or four pounds each.

You must keep your entire body constantly rebuilding and repairing muscle to gain more muscle very quickly. Every part of your body needs exercising: chest, shoulders, back, biceps, triceps, quads, forearms, and glutes, calves and hamstrings, and abdominals. Do you need to force yourself to work out at the gym every day to achieve this? Not necessarily. It all boils down to: push-ups and squats. Work every muscle in your body with just those two exercises (it's even better if you have time to focus on exercising the individual muscles).

Your diet is the last important factor in determining weight loss or weight gain. Consume a double cheeseburger, large fries, and a regular sugar-laden soda three times a day, and it won't be easy to lose weight despite how much you exercise.

Even though there is a vast array of ideas as to what is the best type of diet (all fruit, all meat, no carbs, no fat, etc.), different types of food cause different kinds of reactions in everyone. Basically, every body metabolizes food just a little bit differently than the next. What is good for one person is likely bad for another.

How do you find out what diet works best for you? For starters, analyze how many calories you consume every day. Be sure it's the correct number for your current body weight. Record how you feel - both emotionally and physically - thirty minutes after you eat. Do you feel sluggish and want to nap? Or have you instead found your energy redoubled? You probably already know this answer if you've ever listened to your body after you've eaten a meal, you already know what food is good for you.

Light exercise, drinking plenty of water, and a rejuvenating diet is the healthiest way to lose weight. If all three of the above suggestions are integrated, your lifestyle will be healthier and you'll lose weight without even trying!
