If a hemorrhoid cream is chosen, make sure it contains antiseptics and hydrocortisone.
For treating hemorrhoids by over the counter drugs, pain killers are one of the options. But one has to note that pain killers do not act as a cure, nor it will heal the condition. They will only relieve the symptoms of hemorrhoids, including pain and itchiness.
Painkillers also help to treat hemorrhoids, but remember that painkillers do not treat the actual condition. Symptoms such as pain and itching are only relieved temporarily.
Two treatment options exist for hemorrhoids relief besides over the counter remedies: surgery and rubber band ligation. One treatment involves surgery, which can be effective because the inflamed hemorrhoid tissue is removed by the surgeon. Hemorrhoidectomy is what this procedure is called. To reduce the blood circulation to the area, thus reducing the inflammation, rubber ligation, a non-surgical procedure is done by tying a rubber band around the swollen tissue.
After you treat your hemorrhoids the best way to prevent them from returning is to follow a proper diet and to lead a healthy lifestyle. Make sure to drink at least eight glasses of water, every day. Water helps the blood circulate properly, and can soften the stools by aiding in the smooth digestion of food. Further complications of the hemorrhoids, such as intense bleeding (due to hard bowel movements brought by constipation) are eliminated by producing soft stools for proper bowel movement and avoiding straining. Other ways to practice a healthy lifestyle are to eat foods which are nutritious, and to get some exercise on a regular basis. Ways to help clean the intestine as well as to provide for smooth and easy defecation include eating leafy green vegetables, fruits and other foods that are rich in fiber.
