Costa Blanca is almost certainly the most popular tourist destination in Spain. This is because it has beautiful weather and stunning beaches. This attracts millions of people each and every year. The busiest season is during the summer, however the area is lucky enough to benefit from lovely weather all year round.
The northern region of Costa Blanca begins at the base of the mountains in Denia and Javea. This region continues down the Mediterranean coastline to the south. There are some large cities and small villages which you can visit all along this region.
Traveling to the Costa Blanca
Most travelers visiting Costa Blanca fly straight into Alicante airport. If traveling in the summer months then you will experience the heaviest traffic. If you do plan to travel in the summer then make sure you book your flight, car hire and hotel very early. This will allow you to get the best deal.
When you arrive at Alicante airport there are a number of options to travel to Costablanca. In my personal opinion, the best way is to hire a car. However if you don't want to drive there are plenty of other options. You could take a bus or a taxi to the train station or to a town. Trains are very cheap and a very efficient way of getting around the different cities during your stay.
Attractions in Costa Blanca
Costa Blanca has around 200 km of beautiful coastline, this offers hundreds of different attractions for tourists. In Alicante tourism is big business, it is one of the biggest employers in the region. Tourists from all around Europe flock to the region, especially those in the United Kingdom.
Alicante is the capital city in this region of Spain. There are a lot of things to see and do in this city. It's a truly fantastic place to experience all that Spanish culture has to offer and learn about the history. In late June there is a festival, and there are many museums and cathedrals to look around.
A very famous castle in Alicante is the Castell de Santa Barbara this dates back from 400 AD and has a moat, drawbridge, dungeons and a tower. This is a great way to see the city from a distance!
If you're staying in Alicante then you could consider taking a day trip to Isla Tabarca. This is a very popular trip and can be reached by ferry from the city. This is an island which has a very quaint fishing village with some truly amazing seafood restaurants. There are also tidal pools, rocky beach and clear water.
Benidorm is another popular location which started out as a fishing village, however now the economy is mostly based upon tourism. There are more hotels in Bennidorm than any other city in Spain. This area is well known for its extravagant night life. There are many bars and night clubs which make an interesting night out.
Villajoyosa Is a village which can be found just south of Bennidorm. This is a much smaller fishing village which is more relaxing. This city is famous for its chocolate.
Javea and Denia can be found in the north and offers a nature park. This natural park of montgo offers plenty of opportunities to look at flora, rare birds and fauna.
