There are many advantages and disadvantages when making roman shades by yourself. When it comes to the disadvantages, this entails a lot of work both physically and mentally. There is physical work because in order to do a stylish and expensive looking roman shades, you have to put a lot of effort when it comes to decorating and measuring.
If you are not artistic, just because you have total control, does not always guarantee that you will create a roman shade that will be the envy of your friends. Some people just have to realize that D.I.Y projects are sometimes not meant for everyone and no matter how hard they try, they are doomed to failure. It can also be time consuming as a lot of thought needs to go into the design and building. So if you are always rushed for time, our opinion is that you should not attempt making roman shades.
Your primary focus when making roman shades is to get the right measurements. It is critical that you not only measure each window as they are seldom ever the same even though they might look the same to the untrained eye. You also have to be very precise when measuring the raw materials so that not one hem can be faulted. Keep in mind that for a roman shade to look expensive, you do not necessarily have to spend a lot of money on it.
One of the most important decisions that you will have to make is choosing the right colors for your roman shades. One little trick that seems to work is to visualize how the finished roman shades are going to look when you hang them up. What you want to achieve are shades that do not take over the room but rather complement the room. You really need to get the right balance all the time making sure that the roman shades do not look out of place.
Next it is time to focus on your budget as making your own roman shades can sometimes be more costly that buying ready made or even custom made shades. It is always wise to compare what the total product will end up costing you against the price of ready made shades before you actually purchase the raw materials.
Although it might sound like a good idea to make your own roman shades, always consider the opinion of experts. There are some people who are experts when it comes to enhancing the look of windows. You can ask for their opinion so that you can make an informed choice. Always remember that at informed choice, although it may take longer, is better than a fast choice. Making Roman Shades can be fun but it can also end with disaster if it is not done properly.
