Visible everywhere, they are present in malls, office premises and even in your home. We see them every day and they have become so familiar to us that we take them for granted. First spotted in Central Asia three thousand years BC, they were next seen in Spain during the tenth century and reached further into Europe in the 18th century until these days, rugs and carpets have become an everyday occurence.

Carpets are used to cover the floor and different materials are used to make them on weaving looms, such as textiles and grass. Rugs also use the same products but the method of making them is different. There are different types of rugs available which are designed for a particular use and you need to decide which is best suited to your household.

The most common type of rug used by people is the area rug. These rugs are often very bright and vibrant with colors because they are made with the aid of machines. These rugs are mass produced and also available in a variety of sizes. They are not made to order.

Some carpets are made especially to be used outside. These rugs are the most durable, since they are made to withstand the weather. Every few years an outdoor rug will need to be replaced, depending on the type of material it is made of.

Runners are used to decorate a table or a shelf and are best suited to narrow areas like halls, tending to be lengthy and narrow in size. They can be colorful with different motifs varying according to the place they were produced.

If you are interested in carpeting for stairs, there are two types to choose from. One choice is that which is cut from a roll and the other is stair carpet runners. These are usually made from a softer fabric than other carpets. Even though the fabric is softer, they are built to withstand a lot of stress and friction caused by constant walking on them.

There's also the wall-to-wall carpet. It's also called the fitted carpet, as it is designed to cover an entire area of floor permanently. They commonly are very thick, allowing them to be more comfortable and even offer soundproofing from the floors above and belowbelow. However, because of this, it is harder to clean than other carpets, and sometimes trap dust and mites.

For people who want something different in their house they should go for oriental rugs which are made in places like China, Vietnam, Turkey and Iran. Genuine oriental rugs are made by hand knotting or hand weaving.

Being as there are so many different types of carpets, there is sure to be one that will meet your needs and desires.
