Parents need to be aware of how important potty training is for their child. Much more than simply learning to use the potty, it's a transition moment when they will turn from babies into "big kids". The secret for making this moment a pleasant achievement for the child is to enfold it with lots of care and praise.

Potty training comes in a moment a child starts to seek for independence. They begin to try acting in an independent way, but they still have a lot to learn in order to do it. That's why the parents support and guidance is essential when comes the time for the potty training. Pushing will only make them feel under pressure. Check bellow some examples of efficient positive urge:

*An amusing potty chair is something that will attract your child. Don't impose its use to him. Just place it in the bathroom and let he start using on their own time. Reading a story while he is sat on it can also help to get him more used to it allowing you to move to the next step.

* Dump the poop from used diapers into the potty. It will make him begin to associate the potty with the place where poop is supposed to go. He may find it entertaining to flush the toilet when you empty the potty.

*Some educational books bring stories about using the potty. Pick a few nice ones and start to frequently read to your child. The stories will be a great encouragement for your kid both for using the potty and making questions about it. Just don't forget that when kids come with questions to be honest is fundamental.

* Praise. Let your child know he is doing right when he uses the potty, and you are proud of him. However, don't exaggerate otherwise your kid may start to feel pressured and avoid the potty scared of disappointing you.

*Oops! If he didn't make it to the potty and have some accident, let him know it's not a big deal, and he will certainly do it right from here on. Make sure you don't make him feel ashamed.

* Reward your kid for a well done potty use. Golden star stickers, candies, bedtime stories or 10 more minutes of TV will stimulate children to use the potty every time more often.

* Let your child choose a piece of underwear in a store and only allow him to use it when the potty use becomes regular. It's a good strategy to make kids run to the bathroom every time they need to. They won't want to get the new underwear soiled!

Teaching children to use the potty, is a long journey, so parents should try not to get frustrated in the beginning. Pushing the kids to hard can make it an even longer process. Make them feel used to the potty and comfortable with it beforehand, will turn the potty training moment less threatening. Moreover, praise and rewards will give the necessary motivation to kids for achieving their independence from the diapers.
