Regardless of the age of your beagle you always want your dog to either be housebroken or on it's way to adopting the behavior. It can be very frustrating when you keep trying everything the vet or the breeder told you to do and still your beagle keeps going in the house. Remain patient and do not strike the animal ever. Some people recommend a swat on the backside as a reminder to your dog to not do something but striking your dog is the worst thing you can do. Also avoid locking your dog in a pen if it has a problem knowing where and when to go.

You may have to resort to beagle paper training and if you do it right it should work, but the key is to do it right and be very patient. Your real first step should be a trip to the vet because there could be a physical reason why your beagle is going in the house. Once you get a clean bill of health from the vet then it is time to try alternatives.

You should try to avoid beagle paper training at all costs. One way to avoid the papers is to set aside a 48-hour period where you can take your dog to the spot outside you want them to use every hour on the hour.

Then tell them a one-word command that you want equated with the act of going to the bathroom and then give them positive reinforcement if they do what they are supposed to do. The hope is that after two solid days they get the idea.

A second idea is to simply watch your dog every minute for two complete days. If they start to show signs that they are going to make a mess then walk to your dog, do not lunge at them, and point at them and say a firm one word command like "No" and then take them to their outside spot. When they are done make them feel like they just saved a life with massive positive reinforcement.

You think you have tried everything and beagle paper training is the only solution. Lay several layers of papers in their favorite area to go in the house but make sure you keep the paper area relatively small. When they go on the papers use positive reinforcement. Slowly start moving the paper area to the door and begin setting part of the soiled papers outside.

Soon there won't be enough room on the papers inside to go on so the dog will be asking to go on the outside papers. You still have not solved the problem of making your dog hold it until you get home and going on a specific place in the yard but at least they are outside.

Paper training is not a permanent solution and you should continue to reinforce paper training with other forms of training to finish the job. Always leave a portion of the soiled papers in with clean papers so the dog knows to use them. Be patient and good luck.
