When you are looking to buy Labrador puppies you should know certain things about the breed. This will help you on how to choose the right Labrador puppy and it will also help you decide if this is the dog for you. The first important thing is to research the appearance of the dog, how should it look and how it should behave. These are important to look out for when selecting your puppy.
The upside is that you can get a puppy easily and it may not be as expensive as some other breed dogs. The advantages stop there however, because unscrupulous breeders often produce neurotic Labradors that do not have the typical easygoing nature expected of Labradors. You need to be careful about how to choose the right Labrador puppy. You may have to pay more but this is better in the long run. Paying the extra money means getting a good puppy that will have the typical breed characteristics that you want.
Labradors remain puppies for a long time, well into their adulthood. Some adult Labradors always seem very young. Right from the start your Labrador should be playful and full of beans. Watch the puppy you want carefully and make sure that it drinks and eats fine. Arrange to see the puppy around meal times to make this easier. Nothing is worse than taking home a puppy that will not feed properly.
Think about why you are buying Labrador puppies. Is it because you simply want a friendly dog or a loyal companion? Or do you want to show your dog? If you want a family pet then consider buying a male Labrador, as they are usually more friendly and affectionate.
You are also not able to observe the puppy in its natural environment, with its mother and brothers and sisters. A good breeder will be able to provide you with all the certificates you ask for without hesitation. This may seem like a lot of trouble to go to, but you want a puppy that will grow into a healthy dog. Otherwise you could have a puppy that grows up to have hip problems, eye problems and other health problems.
You might think that because you are buying Labrador puppies as pets that you don't need certification or impressive bloodlines. While it's true that these things are only necessary if you want to show your dogs, these factors will help you get a better dog. Dogs that have a good bloodline have been responsibly bred to produce dogs that are free from genetic diseases. Care has been taken to ensure that there is no harmful inbreeding.
If the breeder tells you that he makes plenty of money by selling puppies then be aware that you might have a puppy mill on your hands. Labrador puppies should grow into healthy, active Labradors that love to be outdoors and engage in plenty of activities.
If your puppy is quiet or inactive then you know something is wrong, Labradors are most playful and energetic as puppies. The extra money and time you spend on choosing the right Labrador puppies could save you a lot of money in the future.
