When choosing among the summer camps for teenagers, parents should take into consideration the interest of their children. You want something that they will enjoy and consider themselves lucky to be a part of. As not all kids are alike, neither are all summer camps.
Suppose you are the parent of a genius IQ teenager, and you don't want to see him spend the summer the same way he spends the school year. The answer to your dilemma is summer camps designed for teenagers with a very high intelligence level. Not all summer camps have to involve sports for the non sports minded teenager.
For budding scientists, there are special science camps organized for the summer. Your teenager will meet other like minded teenagers. Their interest in science related subjects will allow for bonding and possibly lasting friendships. Scientific experiments and discussions of theories are encouraged, allowing this special teenager to not only learn, but share knowledge, as well.
There are summer camps for teenagers interested in space travel. These allow a simulated space flight experience. Not only is it fun for the kids, but it can be a deciding factor for whether or not an astronaut career is in the future. One drawback to the space camps is that they are usually rather pricey as well as difficult to get into.
While this may not qualify as exactly special needs, there are summer camps for teenagers with severe obesity issues. It is common knowledge what overweight kids endure on a daily basis from people. That's why it is such a great concept to have a special camp just for them. These are also teaching camps. Teenagers learn how to eat healthier and discover that exercise can be fun. It is money well spent.
Another special needs summer camp is organized for children with various degrees of mental, emotional, and intellectual issues. There are very special people who work and play with your teenagers during their stay. This is a very positive experience for your children as they can be with others who have some of the same issues.
For the teenager who may want to join professional golf one day, there are summer camps to help move him in the right direction. Some of these camps even get golf pros to hold seminars for the kids. This not only aids them in reaching their goals, but it's pretty exciting to meet and learn from a real celebrity.
If you fear that cost will be an issue when it comes to sending your teenager off to a special needs summer camp, find out the cost, and start saving early. You can be assured that this will be money well spent, for both your and your teenager.
