Do you have a feeling that you have night bug bites in bed? If you think so then you should act quickly. Bed bugs can quickly multiply and make it difficult for you to get rid of them. Here are some ways to flush them out of your life.
Recognize the Bugs
You can have bed bugs in your room and not even know that you do. They can quickly hide in small spaces before you can get a glimpse of them. It is very important though that you know what they look like. Otherwise you wouldn't know what to eliminate. Bed bugs have flat, brown, oval bodies that are only inch big. Their size and structure make it easy for them to hide in small, tight areas. You can find traces of them when they leave small shells and stains. They also typically leave groups of red welts on your skin.
Look in the Right Places
Once you know what they look like, the next step is to find them. Your mattress is naturally the first area to look into. Inspect the folds and creases of your mattress because this is where they would usually hide. They can also be found in the corners and spaces of your bed frame. Aside from these common areas, you should also take a look at the chairs, tables, rugs, stuffed toys, walls and picture frames in the room.
Prevent them from Coming
Now you know the answer to what do bed bugs look like so you can get rid of them properly. The best way to eliminate them though is to prevent an infestation in the first place. You can do that by making sure that you carefully inspect any second hand furniture that you bring into your room. You should also check your luggage and clothes if you have been on a trip and slept in a motel or hotel.
Eliminate Bed Bugs
In spite of your best efforts, you may not always succeed at preventing the bugs from coming in. If you already have them, then you just need to drive them out.
- If possible, dispose of your old mattress and buy a new one.
- Take out anything in your room that can be washed and wash them in warm water. The heat will kill the bugs.
- If there are small items in your room that cannot be washed, wrap them up in plastic.
- Vacuum your entire room from your bed frame to your carpet. Include your walls and other pieces of furniture.
- There are some chemical products that can kill bed bugs. Be careful though, these chemicals may be harmful to your health. Read product labels and find out where you can use them without endangering yourself.
