A few years ago, blogging was a niche activity. Now blogging has become mainstream. Businesses small and large are blogging. But what's a blog?
Essentially a blog is just a Web site. However, it's a Web site in a special chronological format, so that as you "post", or write a new blog item, that new item appears above all the items you've made in the past.
Of course you want your blog is to successful - to get lots of readers. It's possible to get hundreds, even thousands, of readers to your blog each week. Once you have many readers, your blog can become a real money-maker for you.
Here are five blogging tips which will help you to create a successful blog:
1. Create a specific focus for your blog
Choose a topic for your blog. Your blog's topic can be anything that interests you, and about which you have some knowledge. Perhaps you're a keen gardener - if so, create a gardening blog. Or perhaps you get migraine headaches - create a blog to help other headache sufferers.
2. Write your blog items in a casual, friendly way
A blog is casual communication. Write as if you were writing email messages to a friend. Don't use long words if you can help it. Just "speak" on your blog - be informal, even if you're writing a business blog.
3. Decide how often you will blog
Many readers will subscribe to your blog, so give them something to read as often as you can. Decide how often you'll write. In the early months of blogging, write often. You're building up your content so that new readers will find you via the search engines.
4. Think about your readers: what do they want to know about your topic?
The more useful information or entertainment you provide, the more popular your blog will become. Think about your readers, and what they want to know about your blog's topic. If you encourage comments, they will tell you what they want to know.
5. Blogging communication - treat your blog like a conversation
In a way, your blog is a conversation. When readers are new to your blog, they won't know whether you want them to comment or not. Encourage them to comment, by asking them questions, and asking them to respond in a blog item's comments.
