A home bar is the ultimate in entertainment. They are great for people who love to have some friends over and enjoy some drinks. More and more people are starting to enjoy hanging out in the comfort of their own home at their own bar rather than going out to a bar. A home bar can be small or it can go all out and be a replica of a bar found in a restaurant with all the beer taps and everything.
Before Starting
Before jumping right in on your home bar idea you need to make some considerations and gather some information. A simple home bar project can quickly get out of hand without the proper planning. The size of your bar really should be equal to the amount of entertaining you do. A full scale bar, all decked out with gadgets and stocked full of liquor is a good idea if you entertain often, but if you only occasionally have friends over than it may not be a practical idea. Additionally, consider the space you have. Your bar should not over power the space, but should fit comfortably into the area. You should also set a budget because once you start shopping and find all the great stuff that is available for home bars, you will likely want to spend more than you can afford.
Finding Supplies
You home bar is going to make entertaining much easier on you. You will have everything you need within reach and will be able to hang out and enjoy yourself instead of running back and forth to get guests what they need. When choosing the supplies for your bar you should be able to find them at a local home improvement store quite easily. You want to make sure that no matter what you buy and what features your bar has, that you get a quality bar top and under counter. You want to find durable pieces that will last and look good despite the heavy use they are sure to get.
Building
You may need to hire help to install your bar. You will need to install the basic bar components, lighting and then any extra features. You may need to run electrical wires to power fountains or the refrigerator. Most of the work will involve simple skills that you probably have and therefore you can do a lot of the work yourself. Just be sure on planning to get some help for some parts of the installation.
