Parents and teachers are now turning to the power of the Internet to deliver literacy coaching to their children.
The Internet has proved an extremely good medium for that, despite some people's reservations. Here's why:
1 Children love doing things on the computer.
2 Teaching Synthetic Phonics normally takes a lot of training. But the Internet can be a fully trained individual coach for each child.
3 The child is just working one-on-one with the computer. This makes it a more private and less stressful experience than working with an adult, when reading is a struggle.
4 The Internet can adjust each activity to the right level for each child.
5 The daily rhythm and dosing of new materials can be exactly controlled. 10 minutes of fresh, active learning is much more powerful than 30 minutes of trudging through materials.
Whatever people believe, the truth lies in the results. We have seen children crack reading in just days and weeks, having struggled for years with conventional teaching approaches.
