The ranking of schools have always been a controversial issue because different schools or education institutes have different strengths and weaknesses, and the rankings of each different strength and weaknesses are usually impossible to be measured in mathematical terms.
As more universities start to offer the degree, the differences in the quality of the programs and of faculty at the schools are important in terms of how the graduates are prepared for the real world of business. In addition, the differences in the courses offered needs to be evaluated and compared to other programs, to determine the ranking of the program. Online MBA rankings are available on several web sites to help the prospective students come up with a way to rate and discover the ranking of the schools they may consider attending.
As MBA programs became more prevalent, various publications in newsprint and in magazines began to talk about the differences in the programs. From this, a series of informal rankings began to emerge and people started to rank the programs as a way of comparison. Eventually, periodical publications became popular and these contained the MBA rankings. Online MBA rankings were, of course, the next logical step in distributing these rankings to the public. Several magazines, such as Forbes, dedicate large amounts of issues to the MBA rankings each year.
Ranking of the MBA programs or business schools acts as a review that assists a student to examine the reputation of an MBA program, acceptance rate, tuition fee, placement assistance, and employment rates. In the case of business schools, MBA rankings survey is a useful tool to determine their strengths and weaknesses. MBA rankings are always calculated in the form of numerical lists. The best school or programs is designated as #1, the second best is as #2, and so on.
Most MBA rankings are not considered as a standard measure to evaluate an MBA program or a business school. Different sources have different methodologies, so a wide variation can be seen among these results. But these reviews provide an insight of the quality of the program or schools and are valuable for anyone who is intending to take an MBA degree.
