Along with the great summer weather comes numerous outdoor jobs that have to be done. It takes a lot of effort to keep your lawn and the exterior of your home appearing it's best. Some things can be done seasonally, but many jobs must be done on a weekly basis.

Your landscaping is one of the things that requires constant care to look it's best. If winter wasn't kind to your lawn, you can plant grass seed to cover bare patches. Fertilizing your lawn will replace nutrients in the soil that that winter cold has destroyed and give you a healthier lawn.

Wood chips and plastic sheeting can be utlized in flower beds to minimize the need to weed. It can also help the soil to retain moisture and reduce watering times. And, your trees, bushes and shrubs will need pruning and trimming.

To protect your decking it should be given a good cleaning a minimum of one time every summer. Foliage that are lodged in cracks can remain wetand cause rotting and should be cleaned out. A pressure washer is the best way to properly remove any dirt that is stuck. If the wood is looking worn, refinish the deck and add a moisture resistant coating.

All the lights in your garden needs to be cleaned at least once annuallyper year. Even if you've installed low maintenance solar lights, you must still take off all of the covers and clean them with soapy water. Glass globes or plastic covers that are dirty will cause your landscape lighting to be less effective.

With all of the other outdoor tasks that need to be done, the exterior of your home sometimes is missed. A visual inspection needs to be carried out to look for loose boards, siding or bricks. Rainfall will drain behind any exposed places and will rapidly cause your foundations to deteriorate so this is important work.

If you are a swimming pool owner the water should be tested weekly. Maintaining the chemical balance in the pool at the required level will keep the water free of bacteria and clean for your family. And, the heat of the summer will make the bacteria and germs to incubate so don't miss this job.

Whilst it may be OK to let your external summer tasks get behind occassionally, don't let them lapse for too long. Things that are not done in a timely manner take much longer to complete when you do get around to it. And, summer time is for making the most of the yard with your family, not toiling all the time.
