One of the most pertinent facts to know when engaging in Texas hold em poker is that you have to play tight. If you have a group of players and most play loose then it's hard to get a winner. But if everyone engages in tight plays then you will have a difficult time finding a winner.
You may think that you are winning but the truth is that you are just losing less. The bank is going to win each time. This is because all players are playing an identical game.
Always have your own style. Don't be predictable! And make sure that no one knows your next move.
A good rule to follow if you want to win is to observe how the games are being played for a while. Do the opposite of how the game is being played. It won't take that long to catch on.
Tight games are played loose and vice versa. This is the way to win! You gain the upper hand in a loose game if you play tight but in a tight game you won't get the upper hand, ever.
In a loose game you will get the advantage if you play tight. You must recall this because those that engage in this game know how to really play the game. Texas Hold 'em players are famous for coming in and leaving quick a lot in this game.
The result of this is smaller pots so the game might get tighter as you play. If your game gets too tight, maybe it is time to pack it up for the night. For obvious reasons it would be a great game if you were the only tight playing player at the table in a loose game but odds are that isn't going to occur.
The chances of that are slim to none. Often loose players will start to play tight but generally it is short lived. This is a game that has to be watched very closely and then you will eventually develop a skill for it.
Be patient for a while and just observe. Look for how many players call to see the flop in each hand. This is very important information to have.
Observe all of the players. Take notice of the ones that seem to stay in on nothing and the ones that fold right away. You will then have more certainty who the ones are that stay in on anything and who stay on nothing.
When the ones who fold stay, you need to have something good or walk and it can be hard to walk away. But even the finest Texas Hold 'em Poker players have taken a drop by playing too many rounds in hands that were just too tight. Play tight, play tight in loose games and play in loose games only.
