Airfare dirt cheap just isn't possible anymore you say? The truth is you can still save a bundle. The current economic conditions with gas prices and the shrinking dollar has has a huge effect on travel over the last 12 months but you can win the war against high prices!
The last year or so has seen dramatic changes in travel costs but it really is possible to secure yourself some great prices on cheap airfare if you know the tricks.
And remember, airfare dirt cheap only means getting a heck of a lot better deal than the person sitting next to you got.
1. A Bump Off The Old Airfare Log!
This method had become less of an option over the years as fewer flights were completely booked but these days as the airlines cut flights and personell look for this to become more popular as less flights mean less seats.
It is harder to do these days but as the airlines cut flights and personell I expect this to make a roaring comeback soon as less flights mean less seats.
You must be able to have a somewhat flexible schedule and get to the airlines well before your departure time to let the staff know you will bump if the flight is overbooked. Once you get the hang of how this technique works be prepared to save some real money!
2. Let's Go Bucket Shop!
Of course you have heard of Travelocity, Expedia, Hotwire and others and you have probably save lot's of money using them but have you tried the Bucket Shop?
It is possible to save up to %50 or more using this method. Even better is that these aggregators are just as easy to deal with as using the internet to book your flights.
These types of consolidators usually buy tickets in bulk for a fixed price so they do not have the restrictions you would find with other airfare rules.
It is quite common to find tickets for seats that are still available through consolidators that are no longer available through purchase from the carriers themselves.
There are many consolidators to choose from such as Bucket Shop, Travel Hub, Air Brokers and others if you know where to look. So, what are you waiting for! Get creative, save some cash!
3. Break Up Your Flight And Save Some Cash!
Seems illogical I Know but it does work. Quite often you can save a load of money by just breaking up your trip a little. Book separate flights to a couple of cities on your way to your final destination instead of buying a single trip ticket. It can save you cash.
Sounds weird huh but I've save quite a bit by doing this. It works especially well by making your hop city a hub. They must fly there anyway and believe it or not...it works!
4. Take Your Luggage And Ship It!
If you plan your trip correctly you can save big bucks by just shipping your luggage UPS. The airlines are charging more and more these days for your luggage and that doesn't guarantee it will even get there.
You may find that by doing a little checking around with UPS, FedEx and others that you will come out quite a bit ahead by doing this.
Of course it depends on how much you are carrying or how large a family you are towing with you but this method of getting your airfare dirt cheap may just wow you in the end with just how much money you can save. And another great surprise? You luggage is guaranteed to be there when you arrive. When did your airline give you that kind of guarantee?
These are but a few of the tricks to finding dirt cheap airfare. If you know where to look, you can stop paying full price as well. It's not hard, I guarantee it!
