The Costa Del Sol which has more than 150km of coastline is the most popular tourist destination in Spain with tourists from around Europe and the world. The main reason for its popularity is that it offers good weather nearly all the time throughout the year.
This part of Spain is separated into two distinct areas both of which extend out east and west from the capital city of Malaga Province, Malaga City. On the eastern side you will find that the province stretches for 54km from the city of Malaga and heads towards Grenada.
The other 100km of coastline that makes up Malaga province again starts on the western side of Malaga city but goes as far as the border with Cadiz Province. This is the area where most development has been taking place and where many tourists will spend their holidays.
The airport in Malaga is one of the busiest in the country and each year has more than 2 million visitors passing through its gates. These people will then head off to many of the resorts that stretch along the province's coastline the main ones being Nerja, Torremolinos, Benalmadena, Fuengirola and Marbella.
Many people visit the Costa del Sol for spending time sitting on the beach and getting a sun tan, but it has plenty more to offer those who visit the area. This area of Spain has now become popular with golfers as they are able to play their favorite sport here all year round. Today Malaga Province has more than 70 good quality golf courses for players of all handicaps to enjoy and is now becoming known as the "Costa del Golf" as well.
As well as the golf courses there are plenty of other activities that visitors to the area can enjoy including scuba diving, sailing, wind surfing, dolphin safaris and horse riding. For those who would like to try something a little different or more strenuous then taking a trip further inland is worth considering.
If you are a keen rock climber then a visit to the area known as El Chorro only a short distance away from Malaga airport may be worth considering visiting. Certainly this is a location in Spain that has now become a very popular one with climbers from around the world and many come during the winter months to try and scale its heights.
However, if you would rather just sit back and relax and watch the world go by then a visit to Marbella, Torremolinos and Benalmadena should be considered. Here you can spend time on its beautiful beaches soaking up a few rays of the sun or wander into one of its many delightful beach side bars or restaurants.
Although Malaga is very much a commercial city there are plenty of things for one to do and see whilst visiting it just for the day. There is the old port as well as the old quarter where you will find a Moorish Palace and a Roman theatre. This is also the home to the Picasso Museum as this is where the renowned artiste was born.
As you can see from above there is far more for one to do and see when holidaying on the Costa del Sol. Certainly if you want a fun filled holiday then this is a destination worth considering.
