The world famous university town of Cambridge, home to the Cambridge University, is a cosmopolitan city with a stunning mixture of old and new. There is a real sense of living history as you walk around the center of the city. The University and its 31 colleges dominate with atmospheric cobbled courts, chapels, gardens and bridges. In contrast there are plenty of examples of modern architecture which sits side by side with the old, lovers of architecture will find much to admire.

The oldest college that still exists is Peterhouse, which was founded in 1284. One of the most well known college building is King's College Chapel. Started in 1446 by King Henry VI, the project was completed in 1515 during the reign of King Henry VIII. It is regarded as one of the most impressive college buildings in the city.

Cambridge is known as the Venice of Britain because of its beautiful waters ways and the popular punting on the river Cam. What better way to explore the city than from the water. Relax as you glide across the backs in a chauffeur punt with your own amusing and knowledgeable guide.

Cambridge has attractions all year round to suite any tastes. From carols in King’s College at Christmas to sampling fine ales at traditional pubs in the summer sun or enjoying good food in one the many restaurants and cafes, to the year round shopping with its historic market place. You can try and spot the stars of the future at student theatrical productions, or see a show at the Arts Theatre. Live music, poetry readings and public lectures are just part of the intellectual life of the students you can immerse your self into.

Be inspired by the museums and art galleries. Marvel at ancient Egyptian relics in the Fitzwilliam Museum, visit the North and South Poles at the Scott Polar Institute, take a look at the original specimens that Darwin collected on his famous trip on The Beagle, gaze upon old masters by artists such as Canaletto, Titian and Cezanne, take in some modern art at Kettle’s Yard, all within walking distance of each other.

Cambridge is easy to get to by road, rail or air – just 50 minutes from central London and 20 minutes from London Stansted Airport.
