Oxford, The City of Dreaming Spires, is famous the world over for its University and place in history. For over 800 years, it has been a home to royalty and scholars, who have helped shape the city to become one of the most picturesque in Great Britain.
Today the city is a bustling cosmopolitan town. Still with its grand and ancient University and now home to a growing hi-tech community. This has created a contrasting style of architecture across the city with the traditional and modern sitting side by side.
This mixture of ancient and modern has created a vibrant city with plenty to do for both visitors and residents. Tacking a tour of this ancient city is a must, with so much history there is always something to see and with its truly stunning architecture there will be plenty of photo opportunities too. Bodleian Library, The Ashmolean Museum, The Botanic Gardens, Christ Church Cathedral and the Bridge of Signs are just a few of Oxford’s world famous attractions.
Punting along the river Isis is another must when in Oxford. This popular past time is reminiscent of gondola rides of Venice, with people tacking in the sights as they float down the river often with a knowledge and amusing guide to point to notes of interest.
Oxford offers an extensive range of shops and restaurants. With a number of modern shopping centers in the heart of the city there will be plenty for the shoppoholics to keep them busy. And for the food lovers Oxford has many wonderfully restaurants and cafes. World renowned Raymond Blanc has his Le Manoir restaurant just outside the city. With two Michelin stars and regularly voted one of the best restaurants in the country it’s a defiant destination on your visit to Oxford.
Just a few miles from Oxford is the town of Henley –On –Thames home to the world famous Henley Royal Regatta. For five days around the first weekend in July some of the best rowers from across the country and internationally descend on this pretty town. It also attracts crowds from across the world to enjoy the top class racing and to be seen at one of the top social events of the year.
