Virginia, as the saying goes, is for lovers. From the Blue Ridge Mountains to the shores of the Chesapeake Bay, there are plenty of perfect spots for a romantic getaway. For couples planning an elopement, a Virginia bed and breakfast is a perfect spot to enjoy a simple wedding and a special honeymoon.
If you'd love a traditional setting without all the pomp of a big wedding, the Holladay House in historic Orange, Virginia, might be just what you need. The beautifully restored inn is filled with 19th-century charm. The innkeepers, no doubt romantics themselves, have been hosts to many weddings and elopement ceremonies. In fact, the innkeepers were married at a small Virginia bed and breakfast, and the experience was so special that it kindled their interest in running an inn. They now offer all-inclusive elopement packages. Guests only need to bring their wedding clothes and a marriage license.
The elopement package includes all the trimmings, and you'll be pampered from the moment you arrive. Couples are greeted with a bottle of wine and a fruit and cheese tray. The innkeepers provide the bridal bouquet and groom's boutonniere, as well as a licensed Virginia official to perform the service. If available, a harpist can perform romantic melodies to set the mood. After the ceremony, you'll enjoy a bottle of champagne and a wedding cake for two, as well as dinner at a local restaurant. The package also includes a one night's stay in one of the inn's honeymoon suites, which a fireplace and whirlpool tub. In the morning, you'll also enjoy a full, gourmet breakfast.
The Holladay House is a historic gem, listed on the National Register of Historic Places as part of the Orange Commercial Historic District. Built in the early 19th century, the gracious brick Federal-style home has witnessed its share of history, including a Civil War cavalry skirmish that occurred just a few feet from the inn. You can relax on the front porch with a good book, explore the charm of the historic village of Orange, or take a country drive and enjoy the scenery of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Guest rooms offer plenty of amenities such as fluffy towels and luxurious linens, as well as TVs with DVD players (feel free to borrow a movie from the innkeeper's library), CD players and even wireless internet service. Each of the guest rooms has been individually decorated and all are unique and romantic, with private baths. In the mornings, guests are treated to a full gourmet breakfast. Coffee and tea, as well as home-baked goodies are available throughout the day.
With all this pampering, not to mention the convenience of having your innkeepers prepare your special ceremony, a Virginia bed and breakfast is an ideal location for an elopement. The innkeepers at the Holladay House will go above and beyond to make your wedding a happy one.
