Don't be put off by the idea of buying a used RV. More people are buying used all the time, due to the annually rising costs of buying new vehicles. And because new RV's tend to be on the pricey side, a used RV may be just the right idea.
Aside from the fact that purchasing a used RV is less expensive than going all out on a new one, there is one other benefit that can be taken into consideration as well.
Probably the biggest benefit other than the price is that it is far less of an investment to waste than if you were to purchase a brand new RV off the dealer's lot. In other words, this benefit definitely applies to that "first-time" buyer. If you have never owned an RV before, this is a far less costly way to decide whether or not the RV lifestyle is for you.
If you've already made the choice that you will buy an RV, you would be wise to take the time to study up on your upcoming purchase. Finding out what type of used RV you want and knowing what type will fulfill your needs is your first order of business. Do this before you pay anything.
Once you have your outdoor and vacationing style pinned down, you can better answer that question. Keep in mind that you can find an RV in nearly any shape or size and that some don't even require you to drive.
You should also take the initiative to learn about the RV's that are currently being sold. Class A and Class C motorhomes offer you the choice between an engine that runs on gas or diesel. That makes one more choice you will need to make.
If you decide that driving something of that size isn't for you then there are camper trailers, travel trailers, and other towable RV's. The nice aspect of the research end of the proposition is that you can use the internet to save you an awful lot of time.
Probably the next recommendation will be the one that can save you the most amounts of grief and money in the long run. Find a mechanic that specializes in RV's and get them to inspect it.
You should do this anyway any time that you are purchasing a used vehicle but especially if you are planning on purchasing a used RV.
You should also look into all the ways you can finance your RV purchase. No matter what your credit scores, you can find a way to finance. Look into your city's credit union, bank, the RV dealership, or loans and savings.
The main thing you want to research is the cost of that loan. Finance charges and interest rates always vary regardless of where the prime-lending rate is sitting.
Finally, you definitely want to purchase an extended warranty, primarily because the ones that come with used RV's (or any used vehicle for that matter) are never sufficient. There are two huge reasons for doing this. First, it's just common sense where protecting yourself against costly repairs is concerned. Secondly, it will probably help you from a financial standpoint down the road.
