The Spanish have the best beaches and that's official. The Foundation for Environmental Education handed the Spanish 499 Blue Flags this year and another 77 for their Marinas. The flags are given to the cleanest and safest beaches.
The panel awarded the Balearics with 61 flags and iBiza with 18 an amazing achievement given it only 45km by 25km.
They awarded over 3000 flag to thirty six countries across the world including South Africa, New Zealand and the Caribbean. I'd hate to be a judge on that panel. The flag is a symbol of quality.
Environmental matters are at the heart of the judging criteria, which also takes into account education and water quality.
