This is the first part in our guide to some of the finest campsites in the UK.
Three Cliffs Bay
This spectacular campsite is situated on the Coastline of Gower, offering stunning panoramic views of the coast. The campsite was voted “best view in Wales” by country life magazine in July 2002. It has a private path leading down to the beach which is quicker than the public one. The cliffs and golden beaches are great for families to walk their dogs on.
The area of Gower offers many pubs and restaurants to eat in, with the nearest half a mile away. 10 minutes away is the seaside village, mumbles with plenty of wine bars, restaurants and shops. Other amenities not to far away include sailing, wind surfing, water skiing, sailing, pony trekking, castles and a golf course.
The park is open from Easter to October and costs around £14 for a family tent.

Brighouse Bay
Situated in Dumfries and Galloway, at the head of the Solway Firth, Brighouse bay camp site is surrounded by 1,200 acres of land. The site is set in a secluded peninsula with amazing views of the Irish Sea. Brighouse bay is an award winning site that offers a bar, bistro, swimming pools, games rooms and even 10 pin bowling. The park is suited to everyone as there is plenty to do for families with children and lots of relaxing walks and activities for adults wanting a more peaceful stay. The parks indoor pool complex offers activities for all ages, with steam rooms and Jacuzzis for adults and a children’s pool for the younger visitors.
For all the golf enthusiasts, there is an 18 hole championship golf course that has glorious views and for less serious family games, there is a 9 hole course.
The park is open from 18th of April to 31st October and cost around £11.90 for a family tent.
Gwern Gof Isaf Farm
This campsite sits on a traditional north Wales hill farm at the bottom of the Tryfan peak. It is set within mountains and is a great place to stay if you are interested in walking or climbing. The National Mountaineering Centre is three miles away at Plas-y-brenin. The site may not have as many facilities as the luxury family sites, but it’s the location of he site that you visit for.
This campsite is ideal for the more adventurous camper who is interested in outdoor activities, with the site having climbing and abseiling facilities on site. Slightly further a field, cycling and pony trekking is available.
The site is open all year round and costs £3 per person, per night.
